에릭 마이예는 다양한 시공간에서 수집되는 정보, 사람들의 생각 혹은 이야기들을 일종의 조합틀로 재구성하는 작업을 해왔다. 예컨대 그는 도시의 곳곳에 설치된 단말기를 통해 불특정 다수와 사적인 이야기를 공유하는 등의 관객참여에 의한 내러티브 생성을 핵심적인 테마로 다루어 왔다. 이러한 작업에는 기존의 예술에 대한 언어적 접근이 이제 새로운 패러다임을 요구한다는 관점이 내재되어 있다. 자발적이고 예측불가능하며 다원적인 관점들의 교환과 공유를 통해 기존의 예술에 대한 여론(doxa)을 뛰어넘어야 한다는 생각이 그것이다.
MCS 2012에 소개되는 < 미술비평봇>은 예술에 대한 허구적인 언급들을 무작위 혹은 요구에 기반해 작성한 뒤 트위터로 전송하는 장치다. 개연성과 패러디 사이 어디엔가 존재할 것 같은 이 트윗들은 미리 준비된 상이한 스타일의 관용어들을 호출하여 조합한 것들이다. < 미술비평봇>은 전시장에 설치된 컴퓨터에서 운용되며, 보통은 관객들이 입력한 값에 따라 작동하지만 때로는 스스로 새로운 문장을 직접 작성하여 트윗 전송을 한다. 이 문장들은 트위터 상의 @art_critic_bot에서 팔로어들에 의해 조회되며 전시장의 모니터에 동시에 표시된다. 예술에 대한 비평적 언급들이 특정한 패턴에 의해 재현될 수 있다는 아이디어는 상당한 긴장감을 불러일으킨다. 이 장치는 풍자에서 출발했지만 곧 현실을 대체할지도 모를 비평적 전쟁-기계의 일면을 지니고 있다.

Eric Maillet collects and reconstitutes information, individual thoughts and stories gathered from diverse times and spaces. Through receivers installed in various city spots, his interactive works shares personal stories with the public, generating interactive and collective narratives. Underlying his works is a proposal for a new linguistic approach to art: the interchange and intercommunity of voluntary, spontaneous and multiple perspectives overcoming the preexisting ‘doxa’ of art.
