sunset provision (status monitor) is an online iteration of sun_set pro_vision which depicts a digitally rendered sunset and sunrise. An environmental air quality monitor called the uRADMonitor measures the levels of pollution in the air and generates real-time data on carbon dioxide, microfine dust, temperature, air humidity noise, and other pollutants, which feeds into the installation's hardware. This data is then used to render constantly shifting simulations of a seascape and sun movements through a game engine. By presenting an unseen yet very real situation through such game-like visuals, this installation underscores the connection between the virtual world and our physical reality. The title of the piece refers to the legal provision known as the "sunset clause," which specifies that a particular law will cease to have effect past a certain date, while also nodding to the practice of "sunsetting," or the gradual phasing out of a software feature or website from service. This digital version pulls its data from the uRadmonitor hosted within the work installed at the Seoul Museum of Art, offering a 'status monitor'-type preview of the installation to other locations.
