Produced for the 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, entitled Séance: Technology of the Spirit, this video on the Seoullo Media Canvas endeavors to reflect the curatorial vision of the Biennale, which centers around art’s capacity to make contact with worlds that exist beyond waking life. On view from August 26 until November 23 at Seoul Museum of Art, NAGWON SANGGA, and Seoul Art Cinema, the Biennale presents new and existing work from artists around the world, past and present, who have drawn on occult, mystical, and spiritual traditions as an alternative to the rationalistic logics of capitalist modernity. The works in the Biennale propose that a different conception of “technology” may be key to resisting and reconfiguring the political and intellectual structures that shape our experience.
