Carousel recomposes selected drawings by the artist, who mainly works in comics and illustrations, into a slide projection. The drawings are excerpted from three comic books: Hijacking: Comic Hong Kong Literature (2007), which reinterprets the work of twelve Hong Kong literary writers in comic form; The Train (2007), based on a story by Taiwanese poet Hung Hung in which human life and society are depicted as an endless train ride; and The Library (2013), a selection of short stories in which everyday and dream worlds collide. Among the drawings are inserted ten faded photographs that capture the Hong Kong of the past. Originally produced as tourist souvenirs, these vintage slides were found and collected by the artist. While the carousel slide projection suggests the ephemeral nature of life, it is also a reference to the everlasting turning of time and history.
