Hyun Tak Kim

Contemporary Korean theater can be divided into two formats: a representation play that focuses on the drama and a performance that emphasizes the conceptual practice. The director Hyun Tak Kim, beyond this dichotomous division, performs an extreme form of theater in between the two, or on the border of the inside and outside of the theater. He began with the deconstruction or reconstruction of classics, which itself almost develops into a new work. Based on this method, he now practices creative plays that are regarded as completely new works, exploring free experimental practices in theater.
