Joo Myung Duck is a first-generation Korean photographer whose images have traced his observations and historical thoughts on “Korean landscapes” for the last 55 years. Beginning in the 1960s, he carried out a documentary photo series investigating the transformative social changes that the country experienced since the Korean War and the people whose lives affected. In the decades since, his photos have consistently evinced affection and respect for the natural environment by capturing the light and shadows found in Korea’s mountains and deep forests, as well as the repetitive patterns found in Korean architecture. He participated in the 2nd SEOUL in MEDIA FOOD, CLOTHING, SHELTER (1998).
