As a representative figure of Korean experimental art since the 1950s, Lee Seung-Taek works across a range of mediums including installation, sculpture, painting, photography, land art, and performance. Early in his career, Lee utilized pottery, vinyl sheeting, glass, wood, briquette ash and other everyday materials in his sculptural practice, challenging the pre-existing grammar of ready-made objects. In the 1970s, his experiments expanded in order to experience artworks through the body and unfold a more conceptual approach, harnessing natural elements such as wind, fire, and smoke as sculptural materials. He participated in the 2nd SEOUL in MEDIA FOOD, CLOTHING, SHELTER (1998).
