Space and Perception 1988-4 is a photo collage of a landscape in which sky and sea unfold from a central horizon line and encompass corresponding planes. Hundreds of individual photos divided into rectangles were assembled to create a complete landscape in plane. Despite the fact that each photograph depicts the same scenery, slight deviations in time are evident in their imagery, giving rise to an illusion of movement when viewed at a glance. In contrast to the photo sculpture format—lending three-dimensionality to a flat image by placing finely cut pieces of flat photographs on a round surface—here a flat image was actually constructed to appear three-dimensional.
