Why Ghosts, Spies and Grandmothers?

In this event, the opening session of the conference set the tone for subsequent discussions. Park Chan-kyong introduced the themes of Mediacity Seoul 2014 and the conference ‘Miracles, Violence, Disorders and Spirits,’ addressing them one by one. Haegue Yang and Doryun Chong engaged in a dialogue on the aesthetic strategies in Yang’s recent works involving bells. Vladimir Tikhonov explored the Cold War and “Hot War” in Asia, beginning with the case of the Sorge Spy Ring and extending to the present day. His lecture provided deeper insight into Yoneda Tomoko’s photographic series The Parallel Lives of Others – Encounter with the Sorge Spy Ring.
