Kim Yong-eon, “Strange Grandmothers” Lecture
2014.10.28
This is a video documentation of the lecture “Strange Grandmothers” by comparative literature scholar Kim Yong-eon. The lecture took place as the second session of Part 4, “Old Media,” of the conference Miracles, Violence, Disorders and Spirits (괴력난신), co-organized by SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul 2014 and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation. Reflecting on representations of grandmothers in film and political culture, Kim explored forms of fear and hysterical femininity that escape by tearing apart the conventional image of the “grandmother.”
